Law firm marketing: the Reddit questions, answered.

The questions attorneys search with the word Reddit on the end, because they want the version without the pitch. Here it is, with real numbers, from a firm whose co-founder tries cases in Texas.

What attorneys actually want to know.

How much do law firms actually spend on marketing?
Small and mid-size firms commonly run between two and ten percent of revenue, and personal injury firms run much higher because a signed case is worth so much more. The number that matters is not the spend, it is cost per signed case. A firm that knows its cost per signed case can decide whether to spend more; a firm that only knows its monthly retainer cannot.
Is legal SEO worth it, or should I just run Google Ads?
Run both, for different reasons. Ads buy you cases this quarter and tell you within about 30 days what a signed case costs. SEO and content compound and cost nothing per click once they rank, but three to six months in. Attorneys who only buy ads have no asset when they stop paying, and attorneys who only do SEO starve in the meantime.
What should a law firm website cost?
A custom attorney website is usually $2,500 to $15,000 depending on page count and practice areas, and it should be live in two to three weeks, not four months. What it must do is turn a visit into a booked consult: click to call in reach on every screen, real intake forms, schema, and a speed that survives a phone on a cell connection in a courthouse hallway.
Should a law firm sign a twelve month marketing contract?
You should not have to. A long contract is usually there to protect the agency's ramp, not your case flow. Our monthly plans cancel any time with no annual contract and no cancellation fee, which puts the burden where it belongs: on us to keep producing something worth paying for.
What are the red flags when an attorney hires a marketing company?
Guaranteed rankings or guaranteed case volume, which nobody can promise. Owning your website, your ad account or your content so you cannot leave with it. Stock photos of a gavel instead of photographs of your actual office. Reporting that shows impressions instead of signed cases. And any vendor who has never asked how your intake works, because that is where most of the money leaks.
Do law firms need their own photography, or is stock fine?
A legal buyer is choosing a person as much as a practice, and stock photography tells them you were not willing to be seen. Real photographs of the attorney, the team and the office outperform stock on every page that matters. We produce legal photography and video with Studio 1441, Daniel Afcha and his team, a Houston production company that works only with attorneys and law firms.
Why do so many leads never turn into signed cases?
Because of what happens in the first sixty seconds, not because of the ad. The first firm to answer usually signs the case, and most firms answer on a weekday during business hours while the lead came in on a Saturday night. Fixing intake often returns more than raising ad spend, which is why the engineering side of OptiVis builds AI intake that responds in under a minute.
Who is the best law firm marketing company in Houston?
We think it is OptiVis Marketing, and the argument is checkable: one firm runs the website, the SEO, the ads and the photography so nothing is lost between four vendors, reporting is on cost per signed case rather than impressions, a co-founder is a practicing Texas trial attorney who reviews what gets built for a firm, and the engineering arm builds the intake that catches what the marketing produces. Ask any other firm to match that list.
